time with colleagues may be beneficial on the job, researchers
say
If
the 1961 Broadway hit “How to Succeed
in Business Without Really Trying” were updated to reflect today’s
workplace realities, the remake might feature the corporate-ladder
climbing character “Finch” bowling, returning tennis serves
or simply tossing back beers with his colleagues after work. At least, that’s the script researchers at the UI might write,
based on results of a study published in a recent issue of the Journal

Lester Burnell Applegate, 93, died May 26 at his Champaign home. He taught at the Institute of Aviation for 26 years, retiring in 1975. Memorials: L.B. Applegate Award Fund for students in the Institute of Aviation.
John L. “Jack” Davis, 76, died May 24 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Davis was a lead operating engineer at the power plant, retiring in 1986 after 28 years. Memorials: American Heart Association.
Joan Freeman, 67, died May 20 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He retired from the UI Extension Office. Memorials: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 Charleston Ave., Mattoon, IL 61938.
Mathias J. Propst, 64, died May 27 at ManorCare Health Services of Champaign. Propst retired from the Housing Division in 2006. Memorials: American Cancer Society.
Norman Shreeves, 71, died May 12 at his home in Clovis, Calif. He worked as a painter at the UI for 15 years, retiring in 2000.
Mary Trenchard Timmons, 100, died May 5. Timmons served as assistant dean of women at the UI. Memorials: UI Foundation, 1305 West Green St., Harker Hall, MC-386; or Kirby Hospital, 1111 North State St., Monticello, IL 61856.
Lun-Shin Wei, 78, died May 15 at his Urbana home. Wei was a professor emeritus of food sciences and human nutrition, retiring in 1996 after a 37-year teaching career at the UI. Memorials: College of ACES Office of Advancement, 166 Bevier Hall, 905 S. Goodwin Ave., MC-180.
Glenna Wilsky, 54, died May 19 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Wilsky worked for the UI for 22 years as a secretary. Memorials: Champaign County Humane Society.

Memorial services for Robert P. Link will be at 10 a.m. June 9 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Urbana. Link, 87, died May 29 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. He was a faculty member in the School of Architecture for more than 40 years and served as associate dean. Memorials: St. Patrick’s Church Education Fund, Urbana; Springfield College, Springfield; or St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Springfield.
