Silicon photonic crystals key to optical cloaking, researchers say
Now you see it, soon you might not, researchers at the UI say. In computer simulations, the researchers have demonstrated an approximate cloaking effect created by concentric rings of silicon photonic crystals. Dorothy Louise DeMotte, 82, died June 18 at her home in Montrose, Colo. DeMotte worked at the UI for 16 years, retiring in 1986 as an administrative secretary in the School of Social Work. Memorials: Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402, or to First United Methodist Church in Champaign.
Martha Ann “Marty” Glenn, 69, died June 27 at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Glenn worked at the UI for more than 37 years, retiring in 1994 as an administrative secretary with Grants and Contracts. Memorials: Homer United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Cherie Del Lenz, 75, died June 18 at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Lenz worked in the Office of Student Affairs for 35 years, retiring in 1989 as a personnel officer IV. Memorials: Grace Lutheran Church in Champaign, the American Cancer Society or the Champaign County Humane Society.
