exhibition On
view June 4 through July 31 at the Krannert
Art Museum is “American Horizons: The Photographs of
Art Sinsabaugh.” The major retrospective exhibition, organized
by the Indiana University Art Museum in collaboration with Keith
Davis at the Hallmark Fine Arts Program, is the first complete
survey of Sinsabaugh’s work.
Known primarily for his interpretations of rural and urban landscapes
that were often created using a 12 x 20-inch “banquet”
camera, Sinsabaugh was a UI art and design faculty member for
many years.
Most of the show’s 85-plus images are drawn from Indiana’s
Art Sinsabaugh Archive. Included are early design studies, selections
from his two most important series – “Midwest Landscape
Group” and “Chicago Landscape Group,” portraits,
color work and rare, mounted exhibition prints.
The exhibition’s opening reception, featuring live music
by the bluegrass band “Cornmeal,” will take place
from 5-7 p.m. June 3. Other events are planned in conjunction
with the exhibition. |
