Sheryl A. Benson, 61,
died July 17 at her home in Sadorus. Benson was a professor in
the UI College of Education. Memorials: Carle Clinic Cancer Center,

Mary Ella Capes,
75, died July 13 at Hendricks Regional Health, Danville, Ind.
Capes worked at the UI for 24 years, retiring in 2000 as chief
library clerk. Memorials: The Martha Circle of St. Augustine Episcopal

Robert Eugene Duvall,
78, died July 13 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Duvall
worked at the UI for 34 years, retiring in 1982 as a natural science
laboratory assistant III in the department of chemistry. Memorials:

St., Champaign, IL 61820.
Ann Funkhouser, 59,
died July 15 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Funkhouser
worked at the UI for more than 28 years, retiring in 2000 as program
administrative assistant in the parking department. Memorials:
American Cancer Society or the Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
Alfred Olaf Hanson, 90,
died July 2 at Meadowbrook Health Center, Urbana. Hanson, a UI
professor emeritus of physics, was a UI faculty member for more
than 36 years, retiring in 1982. At the UI, Hanson investigated
the structure and size of atomic nuclei through the use of a betatron.
Donald George Jedele, 80, died July 7 at his
Urbana home. Jedele, a professor emeritus of agricultural engineering,
was a professor at the UI for more than 32 years, retiring in
1988. Memorials: Trinity Luthern Church Building Fund, Urbana;

Hospice.
Virginia A. “Ginny”
McCullough, 76, died July 15 at the Carle
Arbours, Savoy. McCullough worked at the UI for 31 years, retiring
in 1992 as the assistant to the head of library human resources.
James E. Osborn, 87, died July 14 in Prescott,
Ariz. Osborn worked at the UI for 30 years. Memorials: The Margaret

John D. Steele,
57, died July 11 at his Champaign home. Steele was a chemist at
the Illinois State Geological Survey for 32 years and recently
was awarded emeritus status. Memorials: American Cancer Society,

Pauline M. Todd, 78,
died July 9 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Todd worked
at the UI for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1988 as secretary IV
in the School of Art and Design. Memorials: Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Eugene C. Wicks, 73,
died July 12 at his Champaign home. Wicks was a professor of art
and design at the UI for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He also served
as associate head, acting head and head of the art and design
department, as well as director of the School of Art and Design
from 1981 to 1989. Memorials: Swann Special Care Center of Champaign
or Developmental Services Center, Champaign.
Catherine Kerley Zech, 32,
died July 5 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Zech was manager
of external relations at the UI Beckman Institute for Advanced
Science and Technology. She had worked at Beckman since June 2000.
