A pig used for research at the UI has a home in history.
Its DNA will provide the first sequence of the swine genome

Richard Herman gave an overview of the strategic plan for
the Urbana campus, which he said was “not just a roadmap

and Singapore as well as Europe.

Mabel Allen, 83, died Feb. 16 at her Savoy home. From 1940-1945,
Allen held clerical and secretarial positions in various campus
units. She was a clerk III for the College of Engineering from
1949-1953. She was a clerk stenographer from 1955-1991 for the
UI Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, later advancing to
the position of Military Personnel Records clerk typist. Memorials:
Trinity Lutheran Church or Carle Hospice.
Dorothy E. McIntyre, 75, died Feb. 15 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. McIntyre
was a computer programmer at the UI. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church Elevator
Fund, 602 W. Green St., Urbana, IL 61801.
Charles B. Porter, 83, died Feb. 21 at ManorCare Health Services, Normal. Porter
worked at the UI for seven years and was an assistant professor of industrial
education and of education when he left in 1961.
James B. “Dit” Vaughn, 81, died Feb. 21 at his Champaign home. Vaughn
worked at the UI for 24 years, retiring in 1984 as a carpenter for Facilities
and Services. Memorials: VFW Color Guard 5520.
Paula Wilson, 40, died Feb. 14 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Wilson worked
at the UI for 15 years. She was a secretary III when she left the UI in 2000.
Memorials: Paula Wilson Benefit Fund in care of Philo Exchange Bank.
Theresa P. Wilson, 40, died Feb. 21 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Wilson
worked at the UI for six years for UI Extension as a visiting data analyst and
extension assistant in Web development. Memorials: www.breastcancer.org or the
