or acquittal? With no clear standards for animations that
re-create incidents, the verdict is still out, and, for

during fiscal year ‘07, and during its April 11 meeting
in Urbana, the UI Board of Trustees approved tuition and
fee increases – and a special fee – to help the

New transportation/pedestrian
study approved by trustees
An architectural/engineering
firm from Raleigh, N.C., is being employed by the UI to assess pedestrian,
mass transit, motor vehicle and bicycle traffic systems on campus
and recommend how they could be configured to create a safer, pedestrian-friendly
and healthy campus environment. The UI Board of Trustees authorized
employing the firm of Martin/Alexiou/Bryson for $150,000 plus expenses
of $5,000 when the board met April 11 at Urbana.

manager named
Mark
Leonard, general manager for Central Washington of KCTS-TV in Seattle,
has been named the new general manager of WILL AM-FM-TV-Online
and director of broadcasting for the College of Communications
at the UI. The UI Board of Trustees approved the appointment
at its April 11 meeting. He succeeds Donald Mullally, who retired

offered for those working full-time
Megan
Puzey, a research specialist in the National Soybean Research Lab,
wanted to get a master of business administration degree but was
concerned that a traditional MBA program would conflict with her
job and the international travel it occasionally demands. So when
the Urbana campus founded its Part-time Evening MBA for Working Professionals

Instructors have found
a way to encourage students to write – and write
well – by
using a wiki (rhymes with “tricky”). A Hawaiian word
for “quick,” wiki is defined as a Web site that permits
visitors to edit the pages and that encourages collaborative writing

Elnora G. Jackson, 91, died April 4 at Carle Foundation Hospital,
Urbana. Jackson worked at McKinley Health Center and as a cook.
Glenn James Meredith, 77, died March 24 at Village Creek Nursing Home in Lumberton,
Texas. Meredith worked at the UI for 17 years, retiring in 1983 as a stagehand
for Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Memorials: American Heart Association.
Donald O’Brien Sr., 65, died April 9 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
He worked at the Chemistry Glass Shop, retiring after 35 years. Memorials: American
Lung Association or American Cancer Society.
Luther “Lou” W. Ricketts, 82, died Jan. 6 at The Towne House Health
Center, Fort Wayne, Ind. Ricketts was an instructor in the electrical engineering
department from 1955 to 1959. Memorials: Covenant United Methodist Church, Fort
Wayne.
Memorial
Richard L. Hay, 79, died Feb. 10 at his home in Tucson, Ariz. Hay was the first Ralph E. Grim
Professor of Geology at the UI when he joined the faculty in 1983. He retired
in 1997 as professor emeritus. Memorials: UI Department of Geology, UI
Foundation, Harker Hall, 1305 W. Green St., MC-386 (or www.uif.uillinois.edu). A
memorial service will be hosted by the department of geology at
5 p.m. May 1 on the second floor of the Levis Faculty Center.
