Second Sunday concert
Pianist teacher and violinist son featured
The WILL-FM Second Sunday Concert will be at 2 p.m. May 14 at Krannert
Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion. It will be broadcast on WILL-FM (90.9/101.1
in Champaign-Urbana) at 7:06 p.m. May 28.
The free concert features pianist Susan Teicher accompanied by violist
Michael McClelland and violinist Julian Teicher Machala, Teicher’s
son. They will perform sonatas by Mozart, York Bowen and Prokofiev.
Machala and McClelland also will perform “Passacaglia for Violin
and Viola,” by Johan Halvorsen, based on a composition by Handel.
Teicher teaches at Eastern Illinois University and was on the faculty
of the Sydney Conservatory in Australia. Recent performances include
solo appearances with the Illinois Symphony, the Champaign-Urbana Symphony,
the Rockford Symphony and the University of Georgia Symphony. McClelland
was a professor of music and chair of the string department at the
UI from 1990 to 1994 and is a member of the Florida West Coast Symphony.
Machala is a freshman violin student of Paul Kantor at the Cleveland
Institute of Music. Machala was co-concertmaster of the Chicago Youth
Symphony Orchestra and won first place in the Danville Symphony’s
concerto competition, performing Samuel Barber’s violin concerto.

Trustees meetings now available online
The University Archives now offers a searchable, online version of
selected volumes of transactions of the UI Board of Trustees. With
funding from the Board of Trustees Office and with assistance from
the Library’s preservation department and Digital Services and
Development Unit, volumes covering the years 1867-1896 and 1990-96
are now available at www.library.uiuc.edu/archives/coll/dl/bot/bot.html.
‘Take Us With You’ Web site
Access to library easy while traveling
Whether traveling across the state or around the globe, faculty and
staff members and students can easily access the UI Library. The recently
redesigned “Take Us With You” Web site provides direct
links to a variety of resources, such as the online catalog, article
databases, electronic reserves and reference assistance. For details,

UI Undergraduate Library
Services expand to include video games
Gaming collections and services are gaining ground as a library resource,
from commercial gaming systems to the various games developed on campus
as educational and research tools. The Undergraduate Library recently
opened its new video game collection with a Game Night. For more information

Illinois Natural History Survey Library
Library grand opening is May 12
The grand opening of the Illinois Natural History Survey Library will
be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 12. Welcoming remarks for the event will
be at 3 p.m. by Illinois Natural History Survey Librarian Beth Wohlgemuth,
Illinois Natural History Survey Chief David L. Thomas and UI Librarian
Paula Kaufman. Refreshments will be served.
The new site for the Illinois Natural History Survey Library is in
Building I at the UI Research Park. The library accepts book returns
for the UI Library and also assists members of the research community
with their general questions about UI Library services. It is open
from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday during the fall and spring
semesters, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. other times of the year.

Office of Business and Financial Services
Fair features travel agencies May 19
The Office of Business and Financial Services will host a Travel Fair
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19 in Illini Union Rooms B and C. Representatives
from the four travel agencies that have contracted with the university – Hobbit
Travel, Suzi-Davis Travel, Franklin Travel and Hub Travel – will
be available to answer travel questions and demonstrate the online
booking tools that have been developed for university business and
personal travel.
National Car Rental and Club Quarters Hotels, service providers for
the university, will be available to provide information and answer
questions on their travel-related services. The Travel Fair also
will promote some of the local hotels that honor the state hotel rates
for university employees.
In addition, representatives from the Corporate Card Office, University
Payables Office, Conferences and Institutes, Allerton Park and Conference
Center, and the Purchasing Division will be available to answer university
travel-related questions.
The fair also will include drawings, promotional giveaways and light
refreshments.
Krannert Art Museum
Two new exhibitions featured
Work by students and alumni of the UI School of Art and Design are
featured in two new exhibitions at the Krannert Art Museum.
The second annual Bachelor of Fine Arts Graduate Exhibition opens May
6, with an opening reception scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition
will feature art by more than 100 graduating bachelor of fine arts
students. The show’s participating artists specialize in crafts,
graphic design, industrial design, painting, sculpture and photography.
The exhibition closes on May 14.
“Designing Experiences: How Graphic and Industrial Design Shape Daily
Life” is on view at the museum through July 30. The exhibition, featuring
work created by students and alumni of the UI graphic and industrial design
programs, profiles everyday products and solutions to visual communication
problems. Guest curators are graphic and industrial design students, and art
and design faculty members Henry Brimmer and Deana McDonagh.
School of Art and Design
Summer art program offered
The 2006 Summer Art Enrichment Program invites students of all ages
to sign up for summer art classes. All classes will meet Monday through
Thursday for two weeks and are held at the School of Art and Design.
Pre-school and kindergarten classes will be June 12-22. Classes for
first- through third-grade students will be June 26 through July 7.
Classes for students in fourth, fifth and sixth grade will be July
10-20. Classes for students in grades seven through 12 will be July
24 through August 3.
Registration begins May 17 and the fee is $65. The program is sponsored
by the School of Art and Design and the College of Fine and Applied

Summer play schedule announced
Now in its 16th season, Summer Studio Theatre Company provides summer
entertainment with a rolling repertory season including romance, intrigue,
suspense and comedy.
This summer’s features:
- “Einstein and the Polar Bear,” by Tom Griffen, features intrigue
and romance during an East Coast blizzard.
- “Dead Guilty,” by Richard Harris, a psychological thriller about
a woman who cares for her husband’s lover after the other woman is injured
in the accident that killed him.
- “The Matchmaker,“ by Thornton Wilder, is an American classic about
a matchmaker in New York City. Thornton Wilder’s 1954 classic and the
immensely successful musical it inspired, “Hello, Dolly!,” are
beloved in both stage and film versions.
Some of the plays contain adult themes and may not be suitable for young
