Rate increase, online renewal
for 2007 parking permits
Two changes have
been put into effect for 2007 parking permits: Rates have increased
and renewal is now an online process.
Parking rates for 2007 will increase by 7 percent, a $2.33 per month
increase for faculty and staff members and a $12 per semester increase
for students. Parking rates are posted at www.parking.uiuc.edu/rates.htm.
Several years ago, the Campus Parking Master Plan called for an annual
rate increase of 13-15 percent to offset anticipated debt. Budget considerations
delayed the increases for a few years until modest rate increases resumed
last year. Earlier this year, the central campus parking deck construction
project was placed on hold pending the outcome of a campus transportation
study. This means the campus will not realize the additional debt yet,
and as a result, do not need to implement the full 13-15 percent increase
called for in the Master Plan. The transportation study should be completed
this year, at which time rate increases will be re-evaluated with further
direction from the UI administration.
Faculty and staff parking permits are now renewable online. Customers
will not receive paper renewal forms in the mail. The online service
also allows customers to view their account, pay citations and provide
comments and questions to the department. Instructions are posted online.
After June 26, customers may choose to purchase a renewal at the Parking
Department’s Customer Service counter.
