The UI News Bureau is moving from its longtime home on the fifth floor of the Illini Union Bookstore to make way for the Campus Center for Advising and Academic Services.
Phone numbers and e-mail addresses remain the same.
Beginning the week of July 9, the news bureau will be at 616 E. Green St., Champaign.
Center staff members are expected to move to the fifth floor bookstore space in late July. |

Brain activity reflects differences in types of anxiety
All anxiety is not created equal, and a UI research tem now has the data to prove it. The team has found the most compelling evidence yet of differing patterns of brain activity associated with each of two types of anxiety: anxious apprehension (verbal rumination, worry) and anxious arousal (intense fear, panic or both). Inverse woodpile structure has extremely large photonic band gap
As many homeowners know, when stacking firewood, pieces should be placed close enough to permit passage of a mouse, but not of a cat chasing the mouse. Now, imagine a woodpile where all those mouse passageways are packed with ice, the wood carefully removed, and you have an idea of what the latest photonic structure built by researchers at the University of Illinois looks like. Committee makes recommendations to improve ‘learning spaces’
Officials on the Urbana campus should rethink how instructional spaces are defined, designed, equipped, maintained and allocated, according to a report from the Instructional Space Advisory Group, a committee that spent the past several months examining various issues related to learning spaces on campus. Katherine Abbott, 50, died June 23 at Carle Foundation Hospital. Abbott worked in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences for more than 20 years.
William W. Alfeld, 82, died Jan. 26 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Alfeld was an associate dean in the College of Communications, working at the UI for 35 years. Memorials: Carrollton Public Library or the Greene County Historical and Genealogical Society.
Steven Ross Douglas, 54, died June 29 at his home in Tolono. Douglas came to the UI in 1985 as a part-time adjunct faculty member for the Police Training Institute and in 2005 became a full-time faculty member. Most recently he was a training specialist. Memorials: breast cancer research.
Eldon Fergus Tufte, 79, died June 23 at the Carle Arbours Nursing Home in Savoy. Tufte was a route driver for more than 24 years, retiring in 1993 from Central Stores.
Albert Wattenberg, 90, died June 27 at Clark-Lindsey Village in Urbana. Wattenberg was a professor emeritus of physics, having been a faculty member from 1958 until his retirement in 1986. Memorials: Trustees of Reservation at Martha’s Vineyard.
Joseph Wilson, 85, died June 7 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Paxton. Wilson was a foreman at the UI Physical Plant for many years, retiring in 1991. Memorials: Peace Meal or the American Diabetes Association.
