Panelists to discuss future of Yugoslavia

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Panelists at the University of Illinois will meet in a public forum Nov. 15 to discuss the future of Yugoslavia in the wake of Slobodan Milosevic's recent fall from power.

The forum, "The End of Milosevic: Political Transition in Yugoslavia," is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on the third floor of the Levis Faculty Center, 919 W. Illinois St., Urbana.

Panelists and their topics:

Robin Remington, professor of political science, University of Missouri at Columbia, who recently was in Eastern Europe, will assess the political situation in Serbia and Yugoslavia.

Carol S. Leff, UI professor of political science and acting director of the UI Russian and East European Center (REEC), will focus on how the political transition in Yugoslavia compares with similar transitions that have taken place in other areas of Eastern Europe.

Jonathan Davidson, chief political officer, Washington delegation of the European commission, will discuss Western and European-Union perspectives on economic assistance to the region, as it pertains to the rebuilding process.

The forum is sponsored by the UI's REEC, the UI European Union Center, and the Program in Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security.
