CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Jeffrey G. Williamson, an economist at Harvard University, will deliver the David Kinley Lecture in Economics at the University of Illinois on Oct. 26 (Friday).

His talk, "Globalization, World Inequality and Political Backlash," will begin at 3:30 p.m. at 141 Wohlers Hall, 1206 S. Sixth St., Champaign.

Williamson will explain how globalization has increased income inequity among and within nations and how it has led to political reactions in the countries affected. He draws upon his extensive research into these issues during the past 25 years and from his recent books "The Age of Mass Migration: Causes and Economic Impact" (1998) and "Globalization and History: The Evolution of a Nineteenth Century Atlantic Economy" (2000).

The chair of Harvard’s economics department, Williamson is directing a project for the National Bureau of Economic Research on the history of globalization.

The Kinley Lecture is sponsored by the UI Department of Economics and the College of Commerce and Business Administration. It is free and open to the public.
