Chicago architectural firm's work to be featured in I space exhibition Melissa
Mitchell, News Editor Mary Antonakos,
I space coordinator 11/23/04 CHAMPAIGN,
Ill. — The
work of Chicago architectural firm Brininstool + Lynch will be featured
in a new exhibition at I space, the Chicago gallery of the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. “Their
work unabashedly celebrates its kinship with the rigorous modernism
of Mies (van der Rohe) and early SOM (Skidmore Owings and Merrill),
as well as its sympathy for (Frank Lloyd) Wright’s marriage of
building to landscape,” Kroloff notes in text that accompanies
the exhibition. “And importantly, in the pragmatic Chicago tradition,
Brininstool + Lynch are process-, as much as product-, driven. The result
is a handsome, restrained collection of buildings that has won the admiration
of both critics and peers, and one which might just point the way toward
a new ‘Chicago School.’ ” |
